LaseMD

What is LaseMD?

LaseMD is a non-invasive, non-ablative, fractionated 1927 nanometer thulium fiber laser. This wavelength absorbs dark pigment while placing heated microchannels into the superficial layers of the skin. As a result, there is improvement of the skin’s tone, texture, and treatment of age spots and dark marks from sun damage and melasma. LaseMD can be safely used on all skin types and there is no significant downtime involved. It can be used on multiple areas of the body, including the face, neck, chest, arms, and hands, and there is no significant downtime involved.

How does LaseMD work?

LaseMD™️ absorbs brown pigment and improves the skin’s tone and texture.

LaseMD creates heated microchannels that are placed into the epidermis and papillary dermis. This enables the tightening of old collagen and stimulates new collagen formation, which decreases the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Furthermore, there is decreased brown pigment from sun damage and melasma as a result of melanocytic escape and the absorption of pigment by the thulium fiber. The microchannels are spaced out and placed superficially, which enables the skin to heal quickly with minimal downtime.

Who is a candidate for LaseMD? Who is not a candidate?

LaseMD can be safely used on all skin types. It is an ideal treatment for patients who seek to minimize dark spots and fine wrinkles with minimal downtime.
LaseMD should not be performed on patients who are pregnant, breastfeeding, have active skin infections on the treatment areas such as cold sores, are predisposed to scarring or keloids, or are currently taking accutane/isotretinoin.

How do you prepare for LaseMD?

Patients are advised to do the procedure when they have been out of the sun for at least 30 days and avoid the use of topical retinoids five days before the procedure. They are recommended to arrive 30 minutes before the procedure for topical numbing. Patients with a prior history of cold sores would benefit from taking anti-viral medication before and after treatment to prevent outbreaks.

What can you expect during the LaseMD treatment?

After the topical numbing is washed off and googles are worn to protect the eyes, the treatment is performed. The laser has a light and tolerable “pins and needles” sensation, as the heat microchannels are placed into the skin. The treatment is customized according to the patient’s objectives and requested treatment areas and lasts about 30 minutes. After the treatment, serums containing brightening agents such as vitamin C and tranexamic acid are applied to help decrease brown pigment. Sunscreen is then applied.

Is LaseMD painful?

No, LaseMD is a highly tolerable procedure. Patients are advised to arrive 30 minutes before the procedure for topical numbing to help reduce any discomfort.

What is the recovery and aftercare for LaseMD?

Patients can experience mild redness, swelling, and exfoliation for up to 48 hours after the procedure. Makeup can be worn on the same day to help cover up affected areas. In a few cases, there can be the appearance of light coffee ground stains on the skin as the dark pigment exfoliates. Patients are recommended to constantly moisturize the areas to help reduce the mild exfoliation. Exfoliation of the skin can last up to one week. Patients are advised to avoid heavy sun exposure for four weeks after the treatment.

When will I notice results from LaseMD? How long do they last?

Over a period of a few weeks, the skin appears brighter, smoother, and clearer as a result of the light resurfacing, increased collagen production, and clearance of brown pigment. Results from a series of two treatments can last up to one year as long as heavy sun exposure is avoided.

Can LaseMD be combined with other treatments on the same day?

LaseMD can be performed after Sylfirm X RF microneedling treatments to enhance the clearance of brown pigment and for smoother skin texture.

How is LaseMD different from the other treatments offered?

LaseMD has minimal downtime, pain, and side effects. It does not involve any injections of materials into the skin. Patients who are seeking treatment for wrinkles as a result of sun damage may consider SmartXide DOT CO2 laser. Patients who are also seeking to add some lifting of the skin may consider combining the treatment with Sylfirm X RF microneedling. Individuals who want to have full relaxation of lines as a result of dynamic muscle movement can consider treatment with Botox® or other neuromodulators.
Before any treatments are scheduled, a cosmetic consultation is required to ensure that LaseMD is an appropriate treatment.
