Clear + Brilliant®

What is Clear + Brilliant® Touch Laser?

Also known as “baby Fraxel®”, Clear + Brilliant® is a non-invasive, fractionated diode laser, which lightly resurfaces the skin with minimal downtime. The laser has two handpieces, each with different wavelengths and effects. The original handpiece decreases the appearance of fine wrinkles and pores and increases collagen density. The Pérmea handpiece improves skin tone and decreases dark pigment involved in sun damage, hyperpigmentation, and melasma. Clear + Brilliant® Touch Laser is the newest model, which enables the use of either or both handpieces to be used during one treatment session. Consequently, this treatment can be customized according to the patient’s aesthetic needs and used on all skin types. Patients have redness and bumps after the procedure, but can still manage to wear makeup and continue activities the same day. Treatment areas include the face, neck, and chest. A series of four treatments leads to optimal results, with improved skin texture, decreased fine wrinkles and brown pigment. As a result, patients have a brighter skin complexion and a more youthful, rejuvenated appearance.

Dr. Erin Kil has been performing Clear + Brilliant® Laser in NYC for over ten years. The treatment is ideal for patients who desire a light resurfacing treatment with minimal downtime and side effects.

How does Clear + Brilliant® Touch Laser work?

Come and experience how Clear and Brilliant® Touch Laser effectively treats fine lines and dark spots with minimal downtime.

Clear + Brilliant® Touch Laser works by placing thousands of superficial, microscopic heat channels into the skin. As a result, the skin heals by tightening old collagen and pores while decreasing brown pigment. The original handpiece with a wavelength of 1440 nm operates with varying depths to decrease the appearance of fine wrinkles and pores while stimulating fibroblasts to increase collagen density. The Pérmea handpiece with a wavelength of 1927 nm operates at a superficial depth of 170 microns to absorb melanin, enable melanocytic escape, and consequently decrease brown pigment involved in sun damage, melasma, and hyperpigmentation.

Furthermore, after the superficial heat channels are created by the Pérmea handpiece, serums can be applied for better absorption and effectiveness to decrease pigment and hydrate the skin.

Who is a candidate for Clear + Brilliant® Touch Laser? Who is not a candidate?

Clear + Brilliant® Touch Laser can be safely used on all skin types. It is an ideal treatment for patients who have never done any cosmetic treatments and desire a procedure with minimal downtime.
Clear + Brilliant® Touch Laser should not be performed on patients who are pregnant, breastfeeding, have active skin infections on the treatment areas such as cold sores, are predisposed to scarring or keloids, or are currently taking accutane/isotretinoin.

How do you prepare for Clear + Brilliant® Touch Laser?

Patients are advised to avoid the use of topical retinoids five days before the procedure and any heavy sun exposure for four weeks before the procedure. It is recommended to arrive 30 minutes before the procedure for topical numbing. Patients with a prior history of cold sores would benefit from taking anti-viral medication before and after treatment to prevent outbreaks.

What can you expect during Clear + Brilliant® Touch Laser?

After the topical numbing is removed and goggles are worn to protect the eyes, the treatment is performed. The laser has a light and tolerable “pins and needles” sensation as the heat channels are placed into the skin. The treatment is customized according to the patient’s objectives and requested treatment areas and lasts about 30 minutes. After the treatment, serums containing brightening agents such as vitamin C and tranexamic acid are applied to help decrease brown pigment. Sunscreen is then applied.

Is Clear + Brilliant® Touch Laser painful?

No, Clear + Brilliant® Touch Laser is a highly tolerable procedure. Patients are advised to arrive 30 minutes before the procedure for topical numbing to help reduce any discomfort.

What are the aftercare instructions for Clear + Brilliant® Touch Laser?

Patients can experience mild redness, swelling, and exfoliation for up to 48 hours after the procedure. Makeup can be worn on the same day to help cover up affected areas. In a few cases, there can be the appearance of light coffee ground stains on the skin as the dark pigment exfoliates. Patients are recommended to constantly moisturize the areas to help reduce the mild exfoliation. Patients are advised to avoid heavy sun exposure for four weeks after the treatment.

When will I notice results from Clear + Brilliant® Touch Laser? How long do they last?

Over a period of a few weeks, the skin appears brighter, smoother, and clearer as a result of the light resurfacing, increased collagen production, and clearance of brown pigment. Results from a series of four treatments can last up to one year as long as heavy sun exposure is avoided.

How is Clear + Brilliant® Touch Laser different from the other treatments offered?

Clear + Brilliant® Touch Laser has minimal downtime, pain, and side effects. It does not involve any injections of materials into the skin. Patients who are seeking to have a more dramatic result and have additional downtime may opt to consider LaseMD or Intense Pulsed Light to treat sun damage and hyperpigmentation or SmartXide DOT CO2 laser for wrinkles. Patients who are seeking to add some lifting of the skin may consider Sylfirm X RF microneedling. Individuals who want to have full relaxation of lines as a result of dynamic muscle movement can consider treatment with Botox® or other neuromodulators.
Before any treatments are scheduled, a cosmetic consultation is required to ensure that Clear + Brilliant® Touch Laser is an appropriate treatment.
