Conditions We Treat

New Bloom Dermatology aims to safely provide a natural and refreshed appearance for all patients. Our founder and board-certified dermatologist, Dr. Erin Kil, has successfully completed and taught a number of these cosmetic procedures to other dermatologists in training at the Mount Sinai Health System.

There are many dynamic aspects of cosmetic dermatology and regenerative medicine, as research and technology are constantly evolving. New Bloom Dermatology aims to provide the best cosmetic treatment options based on peer-reviewed research, efficacy, and safety. These options can enhance our features, prevent further signs of aging, and treat the effects of sun damage, including age spots, sagging skin, and wrinkles.

There are multiple treatment options available for each cosmetic concern. A cosmetic consult is mandatory to determine a customizable treatment determined by medical history, prior treatments, treatment goals, side effects, and downtime.

Acne

Acne is the result of inflammation and formation of blackheads and whiteheads. While medical treatments can be prescribed, there are other treatments that can also be used to reduce inflammation and clogged pores.

Chemical peels and Vipeel can be used to exfoliate the skin, bring comedones or blackheads to the surface, and reduce inflammation.

Customized Facials are performed by our licensed esthetician, Camille Jeannine, and involve the extractions of clogged pores (also known as comedones, blackheads, and whiteheads). The extractions reduce inflammation associated with acne. Application of high frequency can also reduce redness associated with inflammatory acne. Customized facials can be performed at any time of the year and on pregnant patients.

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) can be used to treat inflammatory acne. The blue light targets bacteria associated with acne. The yellow light targets redness and inflammation.

Age spots and dark marks

Age spots and dark marks can occur as a result of sun damage, melasma, and after clearance of inflammation from conditions such as acne.

Chemical peels and Vipeel can be used to treat all forms of dark marks, including age spots, post inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH), and melasma. The exfoliation of pigmented cells on the superficial layers of the skin reveals brighter and rejuvenated skin.

Clear + Brilliant® Touch Laser places thousands of superficial, microscopic heat channels into the skin. The skin heals by tightening old collagen and pores while decreasing brown spots. The Pérmea handpiece absorbs melanin, enables melanocytic escape, and consequently decreases dark marks involved in sun damage, melasma, and post inflammatory hyperpigmentation. The treatment can be safely used on all skin types.

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) can be used to treat hyperpigmentation from sun damage for light to medium skin types. The treatment utilizes different wavelengths of light to target both brown and red discoloration. IPL is the best treatment for freckles and age spots on the face, arms, hands, and chest.

LaseMD is a non-invasive, non-ablative, fractionated thulium fiber laser that can be used on all skin types. This wavelength absorbs dark marks while placing heated microchannels into the superficial layers of the skin. As a result, there is improvement of the skin’s tone, texture, and age spots from sun damage and melasma.

Sylfirm X RF microneedling is the placement of heated needles into the skin. The heated needles contract old collagen while stimulating the production of new collagen. The pulse wave setting can also clear senescent fibroblasts responsible for causing age spots and melasma. This treatment can be combined with LaseMD.

Blood vessels and redness

Formation of superficial blood vessels are often a result of genetics, sun damage, and alcohol intake. Redness is the result of the enlargement of blood vessels. Dark circles on the lower eyelids are often due to pooling of veins.

Excel® V Laser specifically targets blood and consequently causes shrinkage and destruction of blood vessels. It can be used for fine telangiectasias, especially on the nasal folds and cheeks, redness associated with rosacea, and dark circles on the lower eyelids.

Sylfirm X RF microneedling has a specific pulse wave energy that causes apoptosis or programmed cell death of superficial blood vessels. This treatment is also done in conjunction with lifting of the skin.

Sagging skin

Sagging skin is the result of the accumulation of sun damage and lack of new collagen and elastin production. Often, this can occur in conjunction with increased subcutaneous fat. It is important to distinguish sagging skin from increased subcutaneous fat for the most targeted treatment.

Exilis Ultra 360 uses energy from radiofrequency and ultrasound to heat the deeper layers of the skin. The heat stimulates the tightening of collagen and the formation of new collagen. Common areas of treatment include the upper eyelids, jawline, abdomen, buttocks, arms, and thighs

Kybella® or deoxycholic acid is FDA approved for treating double chin or submental fullness as a result of the accumulation of subcutaneous fat. It is injected to the area below the chin and permanently destroys fat cells.

Sylfirm X RF microneedling is the placement of heated needles into the skin, which produces pulses of energy to contract old collagen and stimulate fibroblasts to generate new collagen and elastin. This decreases skin sagging and wrinkles and improves the skin’s tone and texture.

Ultherapy® has the greatest capacity for non-surgical tightening of sagging skin. It uses ultrasound technology to penetrate the dermis at three different depths. The energy from the sound waves heats the collagen. This tightens the old collagen while stimulating the formation of new collagen by up to 42%.

Scar, acne scars

Scar formation is the result of haphazard wound healing. Acne can also leave behind pitted and rolling scars as a result of inflammation. These procedures should not be used in patients with a prior history of hypertrophic scars and keloids.

Excel® V Laser has two handpieces that treat scars. The Coolview handpiece targets blood in blood vessels and scars, which reduces the appearance of redness in scars. The Genesis V handpiece is a non-ablative laser that uses small pulses of energy to heat the dermis. This stimulates collagen production while targeting fine blood vessels. As a result, there are decreased acne scars with minimal downtime.

Microneedling + Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is the placement of non-heated needles into the skin, causing wound healing response. The old collagen is broken down while new collagen is produced, which decreases the appearance of old scars, especially acne scars. PRP accelerates the wound healing response and increases collagen production.

SmartXide DOT Fractionated CO2 laser results in the placement of heated microchannels into the skin with varying depths and energy. This creates a wound healing response by contracting old collagen and generates new collagen. As a result, there is decreased visibility of scars.

Sylfirm X RF microneedling is the placement of heated needles into the skin. The heated needles contract old collagen while stimulating the production of new collagen. The pulse wave setting can also clear blood vessels responsible for causing redness in scars.

Volume loss and deep wrinkles

After the age of 30, we lose a teaspoon of collagen on the face each year and cannot produce additional collagen. Furthermore, sun damage accelerates the breakdown of collagen and elastin. These factors result in volume loss and deep wrinkles, especially on the cheeks, nasolabial folds, temples, lips, chin, and hands. The use of fillers can help decrease volume loss and treat deep wrinkles.

Fillers such as Restylane®, and RHA® Collection are composed of hyaluronic acid, which adds volume to the skin, relaxes facial folds, and adapts to dynamic facial movement.

Radiesse® is a semi-permanent filler made of calcium hydroxylapatite, which provides immediate contouring and reduces facial folds. Radiesse® is considered a biostimulator because it increases collagen and elastin production.

Wrinkles

Wrinkle formation occurs predominantly as a result of collagen and elastin breakdown from sun damage and dynamic muscle contractions. There are different treatment options to help target various aspects of wrinkles such as skin resurfacing, increasing collagen production, and decreasing muscle movement.

Botox®, Daxxify®, Dysport®, Jeuveau®, and Xeomin® are neuromodulators that relax wrinkles on the face and neck by interrupting the communication between the nerve and muscle. They remain one of the best treatment options for wrinkles on the forehead, eleven’s between the eyebrows, crow’s feet, smile lines, and neck bands. Neuromodulators can also help release muscle tension on the lateral jaw caused by temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorder.

Clear + Brilliant® Touch Laser resurfaces the skin by placing thousands of superficial, microscopic heat channels into the skin. As a result, the skin heals by tightening old collagen and pores while stimulating fibroblasts to increase collagen density.

LaseMD is a non-invasive, non-ablative laser that creates heated microchannels placed into the epidermis and papillary dermis. This enables the tightening of old collagen and stimulates new collagen formation, which decreases the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Microneedling + Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is the placement of non-heated needles into the skin, causing wound healing response. The old collagen is broken down while new collagen is produced, which decreases the appearance of wrinkles. PRP accelerates the wound healing response and increases collagen production.

RHA® Collection features RHA Redensity, a thin filler that is FDA approved for wrinkles around the mouth. It can also be used for other areas with shallow wrinkles formed on the face and neck.

SmartXide DOT Fractionated CO2 laser is a fractionated, non-ablative laser treatment resulting in the placement of heated microchannels into the skin with varying depths and energy. This creates a wound healing response by contracting old collagen and generates new collagen. As a result, it effectively treats wrinkles on the face and neck. It is also one of the best treatments for wrinkles under the eyes and around the mouth.
